Curious to learn what an average "day-in-the-life" of a Dovetail account coorindator is like? You'll be assigned anywhere from one to three accounts to work on, and you'll work side by side with agency account managers, our vice president, our president and our office manager. Although every Dovetail client has unique activities, most client programs are composed of multiple ongoing program elements, which you will track and execute. Some of these elements may include:

    1. Editorial calendaring - you'll create, track and manage an editorial calendar spreadsheet that consolidates known planned story features of interest to our clients. Your consolidated calendar will be created by researching the individual editorial calendars for our target publications. To learn what a magazine's editorial calendar looks like, here's a sample of PC Magazine's editorial calendar, click here. You'll continually update your editorial calendar to track fast-changing editorial opportunities. Once your calendar is complete, you'll track the opportunities and pitch our clients' products, people, and customers for inclusion in the feature. Our unique process for editorial calendaring, which we'll teach you, is actually much more involved, but this gives you an idea.

    2. Press announcement publicity - our clients make frequent announcements, usually in the form of a press release. We'll teach you how to promote these announcements to the appropriate media. To be successful, you must learn to articulate complex topics in simple language and how to build positive, mutually beneficial relationships with reporters. You will need to learn how to think like a reporter so you can pitch stories in a way that compells them to want to interview your client and cover the story. You'll need to be meticulously organized with a great memory and an attention to detail. Again, the process we teach you for press announcement publicity is much more complex that this simple summary.

    3. Press release writing - We don't expect you to be an expert press release writer on day one, but we do expect you learn quickly, and the better you are, the more writing responsibility we've give you and the faster you'll be promoted.

    4. Client communication - you'll work with clients daily via phone conversations and email as you line up interview opportunities, provide progress reports, or participate in planning calls.

    5. Activity logging - At Dovetail, our time is billed to clients by the hour. You must maintain well organized, accurate and complete logs of your daily client work, updated throughout the day as you work.

There's obviously much more to the position. In short, you'll spend most of your time on the phone and on email, pitching stories, managing story opportunities, communicating with your client, and working as an integral member of the Dovetail team. In your spare time, you'll devour industry trade publications such as eWeek, Computerworld, PC Magazine and relevant blogs so that you can quickly become expert in your field and stay on top of trends that will help you better serve your clients.
